Neck pain can have many causes — injury, posture, arthritis, muscle strain, nerve irritation and more. A pillow cannot diagnose or cure those problems. The right pillow height is not just about softness. It is about the space between your head, shoulders and mattress in the position you actually sleep.
Side sleepers generally create more space between the mattress and the side of the head because of shoulder width. Back sleepers often need less height. Combination sleepers create a tougher problem because the “right” amount of support can change when they roll from one position to another.
